Mission and Vision
Just for Kids Foundation (JFK) raises funds to purchase high-priority medical equipment, and to support initiatives, that improve the quality of care for patients of the Montreal Children’s Hospital.
At JFK Foundation, our vision is simple: To continually enhance the experience and care of every patient at the Montreal Children’s Hospital.
Hospitals rely on foundations such as ours to help close the gap between basic government funding and much needed medical equipment and programs.
To date, Just for Kids Foundation has:
- Purchased over $11.5 million of high-priority medical equipment for the MCH.
- Helped over 1,500 healthcare professionals improve patient care.
- Touched almost every department at the hospital.
- Equipped medical staff with the latest technological advancements. This, in turn, attracts world-class medical professionals to Montreal and the MCH.
- Established the JFK Sibling Park, a free childcare centre for siblings of children in acute care.
This year, our focus remains on essential projects that could greatly benefit from your support.
JFK Foundation will be purchasing a Giraffe Incubator for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at the Children’s. The current pandemic has made this an urgent need as the NICU is a dedicated COVID-19 centre. In critical care environments such as the Children’s, standardized, consistent equipment and supplies are essential to neonatal health. The addition of this state-of-the-art machine will ensure the highest rate of survival for our tiniest and most vulnerable babies.
JFK is committed to improving mental health resources at the Children’s. For the next three years we will be providing a Social Worker specializing in Mental Health for the Emergency Room. The social worker will play a critical role in responding to and treating vulnerable patients and act as a facilitator between the medical team and the child’s family.
JFK will be purchasing a Difficult Airway Cart, a vital life-saving piece of equipment. In an emergency, staff have only minutes to install a breathing tube before their patient risks brain damage due to lack of oxygen. If a child has a difficult airway, standard intubation techniques will not suffice, and specialized tools are required.
The JFK Sibling Park at the Children’s provides siblings of patients in acute care a safe haven. With professional childcare workers by their side, siblings can play freely, enjoy arts and crafts and make new friends. This fully subsidized Park helps alleviate the financial stress of extra childcare costs and is often credited with keeping families together during their most difficult moments.
Please support Just for Kids Foundation and make a difference in the lives of countless children.
Just for Kids Foundation was founded over 30 years ago (in 1987) by Harriet Greenstone. Harriet witnessed first-hand the need for updated medical equipment to best diagnose and treat patients at the Montreal Children’s Hospital. Along with a group of dedicated volunteers they created innovative ways to raise funds for the Children’s.
Volunteers are the backbone of our organization and we are fortunate to have a wonderful community of board members, volunteers and committee members who share in the vision of helping the Montreal Children’s Hospital remain a pillar of strength and hope in our community.
